The Southern Skirmish Association
The Southern Skirmish Association or SoSkAn as it is most commonly known was first inaugurated in June 1968 by a group of keen American Civil War enthusiasts and we are extremely proud of our continuous history as the longest established American Civil War Re-enactment and Living History Society in the United Kingdom.
Over the last 40 years the Association has continued to progress, we strive to accurately portray the men and women who gave their lives for their beliefs through those difficult American Civil War years of 1861 - 1865. Despite our professional attitude to our portrayals we are very much a family orientated organisation of people from all walks of life, all sharing a common interest in the events that created this fascinating period of history 140 years ago.
As a military based society our members are expected to participate in ALL things military. This is not just the battle or skirmish scenarios. They are properly trained to handle the weapons & equipment of the period using the correct drill and instruction manuals; take part in military camp life and act out scenarios when the public visits the camp..
Generally known as Soskan it now has a brilliant new website which our Westhill Studios Colleagues built with all the information neatly in one place.

The organisation is apolitical; its only interest in the present is the study and preservation of the past.

The Lawmen began in 1968 with a group of Old West enthusiasts, and it has evolved into today's group of 30 people, all dedicated to bringing the Old West to life.
We aim to give the audience a window into the ways of life during the late 1860's to late 1890's, whilst making our performances fun and exciting. We are constantly looking to welcome new members into the club and would love to hear from anyone interested in joining.

The British Old West Reenactment Society is a new and growing society. It's primary purpose is to build a working wild west town in Britain. This is a mighty big task to take on, but there are dedicated members here. If your interest falls inside the American Old West between 1861 when the American Civil War commenced through to the Indian wars of the 1870's and on to the cowboy years of the 1880's, then this site is for you!
An advantage to being a member of B.O.W.R.S. is that you get to know other members in a general area which you specify!
We're looking for members to become involved on all levels. If you just want to be a member, we're happy for you to just pay your subscription. If you wish to be involved in the town (when it's built) you can do that too! If you want to have a say in what happens, then there are still a few executive member positions left.
What can we offer you now? We offer you the chance to get in contact with other people of like interest. We can help you promote your own western groups, re-enactment regiments and any scheduled activities.

| Re-enactorguard is a brand new, specialist insurance policy created specifically for re-enactors, costumers and living historians. Many home contents insurance policies will not insure re-enactment kit like props and costumes, or they may restrict the use to domestic use only! Re-enactors may also have problems when it comes to getting suitable public liability insurance - the thought of the public being in close proximity to black powder, swords and other weapons is enough to give most insurers a panic attack! Re-enactorguard is different… Re-enactorguard insurance is flexible! |
